10 Years of Coccyx Pain 80% Relieved After One Adjustment

Published: 7 July 2023

Matthew had been suffering with coccyx (tailbone) pain for 10 years following a fall. Despite seeking help over that period, nothing had given lasting relief.

When he came to Spine Plus, an MRI scan revealed the cause: a subluxed terminal coccyx segment, meaning the small bones at the base of the spine had shifted out of their normal position. This is a finding that can be easily missed on clinical examination alone.

One Adjustment, Dramatic Results

With the MRI evidence pointing clearly to the cause, a single targeted osteopathic adjustment to the coccyx achieved 80% relief of his 10-year pain.

This is a striking example of how proper imaging changes the treatment approach. Years of generalised treatment had failed because the specific mechanical problem had never been identified and directly addressed.

Addressing the L5-S1 Disc

Matthew's MRI also revealed an L5-S1 disc bulge. This was then treated with IDD Therapy, which gave similarly rapid results. With both problems now properly identified and targeted, Matthew was able to make the recovery that had eluded him for a decade.

The Value of MRI-Led Treatment

This case shows why we believe in MRI-led assessment. A clinical examination can identify many problems, but imaging reveals structural changes that direct hands-on treatment simply cannot find. Knowing exactly what you're treating allows for a far more targeted, effective approach.

If you have long-standing pain that hasn't responded to treatment, consider whether your underlying cause has been properly identified. Call us on 020 8506 1000 to discuss an MRI referral and full assessment.
