Full Spinal Assessment Including MRI Review, Treatment and Referral Planning

Our in-depth spinal assessment includes orthopaedic and neurological tests, and a review of any relevant MRI scans in much the same way as would be done by a spinal surgeon. Unlike most spinal surgeons, however, we dedicate up to 60 minutes for your initial assessment, and carry out an expert biomechanical and palpatory assessment as would be performed by any good physical therapist.

We don't just glance at your MRI scans; we carefully review them and consider what they mean in the context of your clinical presentation, your symptoms and your function. This combination of surgical-level diagnostic rigour and physiotherapy-level clinical assessment gives our patients a uniquely thorough starting point.

What the Assessment Includes

• Orthopaedic and neurological testing, standardised tests to assess nerve function, reflex integrity, joint mobility and spinal stability
• Detailed MRI review, we examine the images themselves, not just the written radiologist's report
• Extended initial assessment, up to 60 minutes, in contrast to the 15 to 20 minutes typical of most surgical consultations
• Expert biomechanical assessment, assessing how your spine and body are moving and loading
• Palpatory assessment, hands-on examination of joints, muscles and soft tissues
• Personalised treatment plan, clear recommendations and next steps, including referral if appropriate

• Have been told they may need surgery and want a second opinion on conservative options
• Have complex or long-standing back or neck pain that has not responded to general physiotherapy or osteopathy
