Have You Had Every Other Treatment to Ease Pain?
Radial and focused shockwave therapy, used by our therapists in Woodford, Chigwell, Hornchurch and Bow, is ideal for Achilles tendinopathy, plantar fasciitis, tennis elbow, and stubborn shoulder pain.
Shockwave therapy usually achieves excellent results for people suffering persistent pain affecting muscles and tendons such as:
- Tennis elbow
- Shoulder tendonitis and calcific tendonitis
- Patellar tendonitis
- Shin splints
- Achilles tendonitis
- Heel pain (plantar fasciitis, heel spur)
- Scar tissue and facet joint inflammation
- Muscular trigger points
How Does Shockwave Therapy Work?
Using compressed air to create "shockwaves", the therapy promotes the remodelling of scar tissue and calcified tissue, the formation of new blood vessels and collagen, as well as significantly reducing pain (and "neurogenic inflammation") from nerve endings.
This treatment can help you eliminate pain and regain an active and healthy lifestyle when many other treatments have failed. Most patients experience excellent results within 4 to 12 sessions.
How Much Does Shockwave Therapy Cost?
Shockwave therapy machines do not come cheap, and therefore many hospitals and clinics charge a fee of £200 to £400 per session, which includes a "facility fee" as well as the clinician fee. However, we feel shockwave therapy should be more affordable.
Depending on the exact settings used, our average shockwave therapy fee is £85 per session. Please refer to our individual clinic pages for up to date pricing according to location.
It is estimated that a single shockwave session has the same or greater effect as 6 to 8 sessions of deep friction massage, so £85 per session represents great value for money.
Why Choose Spine Plus for Shockwave Therapy?
Spine Plus offers both radial and focused shockwave therapy. We stand as one of the few select clinics in the UK offering both modalities. While most UK clinics rely on radial pressure wave technology, we also harness the unparalleled energy of focused shockwave, around a hundred times more powerful, using a Harley Street standard of care.
Our clinicians are osteopaths and physiotherapists with postgraduate training in electrotherapy, and treatment is always integrated into a personalised care plan rather than delivered in isolation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will my first appointment include treatment?
Yes. Whilst it is often important to start with a detailed case history and clinical examination, we will most certainly start your course of shockwave therapy at your first appointment. The only exception is where a contraindication is identified during assessment, in which case you will only be charged the consultation fee or offered an alternative form of treatment.
Do I need a GP referral?
No. The vast majority of our patients seeking help for musculoskeletal pain simply call and book in. If you are considering focused shockwave therapy for vascular erectile dysfunction, we would suggest consulting a specialist first to rule out causes that shockwave therapy will not address.
How often should I have treatment?
For most conditions we recommend one treatment per week, or at most once every five days.
How does shockwave therapy work?
Shockwaves supercharge the metabolic healing responses of the body and stimulate a process known as neovascularisation, which encourages the formation of new blood vessels and the repair of damaged ones. Improved blood flow means faster and better quality healing.
