Joe Gets Back to Running with Shockwave Therapy
Published: 8 November 2023
Joe came to us with plantar fasciitis, a common but often stubborn cause of heel pain. The pain had reached the point where it was stopping him from running and taking part in sport he loved.
Watch Joe describe his experience with shockwave therapy at Spine Plus:
About Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of the thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of your foot and connects your heel bone to your toes. It causes stabbing pain that usually occurs with your first steps in the morning or after periods of rest.
For active people, it can be particularly frustrating because running and impact activities aggravate it, creating a cycle that's hard to break with rest alone.
How Shockwave Therapy Helps
Shockwave therapy breaks down the damaged, calcified tissue and scar tissue in the plantar fascia, while stimulating the body's own healing response. It promotes new collagen production and improved blood flow to an area that's typically poorly supplied.
Most patients with plantar fasciitis require 3 to 6 sessions. Many notice improvement within the first couple of treatments, with continued progress over the following weeks.
