Bob Gets Back to Golf
Published: 4 July 2023
Bob came to our Hornchurch clinic with sciatica and leg pins and needles caused by a right paracentral L5-S1 disc protrusion compressing the S1 nerve root. The pain was severe enough that he was relying on naproxen daily and was very keen to avoid both injections and surgery.
IDD Therapy gave him immediate relief. Now he's back playing golf, doing long drives, taking long-haul flights, and has come off all medication. Watch Bob tell his story:
L5-S1 Disc Protrusion and Sciatica
A right paracentral disc protrusion at L5-S1 pressing on the S1 nerve root is one of the most common presentations we see. Symptoms typically include:
- Pain in the lower back radiating into the buttock and down the back of the leg
- Pins and needles or numbness in the calf, ankle, or foot
- Weakness in the calf or difficulty standing on tiptoes
- Pain aggravated by sitting, bending, or driving
Why IDD Therapy?
IDD Therapy is particularly effective for disc protrusions because it uses computer-controlled distraction forces to specifically target the L5-S1 disc level. By creating a gentle, oscillating decompression, it reduces the pressure on the nerve root and encourages the disc to rehydrate and retract. This directly addresses the cause rather than just masking symptoms.
For patients who want to avoid long-term medication, injections, or surgery, IDD Therapy offers a genuine alternative with reported success rates of 70 to 90% for appropriate disc conditions.
