About Osteopathy

Osteopathy originated in America in the late 19th century and has developed in the UK within the private sector over the last 40 years. It is a regulated healthcare profession in the UK, with all osteopaths required to be registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC).

There is a common misconception that osteopaths only treat the spine through joint manipulation. Modern osteopaths are trained in a wide variety of hands-on manual therapy techniques for all the muscles and joints of the body. Treatment is informed by detailed clinical assessment and tailored to the individual patient.

What to Expect

Your first appointment with one of our osteopaths includes a detailed case history, orthopaedic and neurological examination, postural and movement assessment, and MRI analysis if you have previous scans available. You will receive a full explanation of our findings and a clear treatment plan before any hands-on treatment begins.

Treatment may include soft tissue massage and mobilisation, joint manipulation (where appropriate), medical acupuncture, exercise prescription and advice on activity modification. No GP referral is needed.
