Physiotherapy For All
Our Physiotherapists have worked in prominent postgraduate positions in the NHS, in the private sector and for sports teams for many years. In addition, they receive our high standard of in-house training, making them exceptionally qualified to deal with any injury or rehab protocol. We also pride ourselves on the friendly and trustworthy service provided by our therapists which all adds up to unrivalled Physical Therapy care.
Sports Physiotherapy
As well as treating acute pain and injury our physios are trained to spot and treat injuries before they happen which is why we have gained a reputation amongst many sportsmen and women who visit Spine Plus either as part of their preparation before or after a sporting event or as part of an on-going maintenance and injury prevention regime.
What to Expect
All of our physiotherapists are postgraduate trained and are extremely experienced giving reassurance to all of our patients. We will listen to your symptoms and provide you with the care we recommend after a thorough assessment, giving you the confidence to start your rehabilitation.
Whether it’s soft tissue techniques – including massage – applied to sore tight muscles, or medical acupuncture, it’s all down to your personal preference. Our physiotherapists are also trained to use electrotherapy, including ultrasound, ideal for certain tendon and ligament damage.
We pride ourselves on our relationship with patients, attending to your needs and improving your wellbeing. You’ll be given our gold standard of treatment, with a friendly and professional touch – that’s the Spine Plus guarantee.
Background to Physiotherapy Treatment
Physiotherapy began originally as an extension of massage therapy in the United Kingdom. Physiotherapists used to work under the supervision of a surgeon in hospitals but as the practice of physiotherapy developed it grew into its own separate profession, treating patients with injuries, illnesses or even after surgery. Physiotherapists not only provide massage but also offer ultrasound treatment, medical acupuncture, shockwave therapy, plus exercise routines and advice.

Frequently Asked Questions about Physiotherapy
What conditions can a Physiotherapist treat?
Physiotherapy is commonly used to help with a wide range of musculoskeletal problems, including back pain, neck pain, sciatica, shoulder injuries, hip pain, sports injuries, joint stiffness, postural issues, and recovery after surgery. At Spine Plus, treatment is tailored to the underlying cause of the problem rather than just the site of pain.
What happens at my first appointment?
Your first appointment includes a detailed consultation to understand your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle, and goals. This is followed by a thorough physical examination and, where appropriate, hands-on treatment during the same session. You'll also receive clear advice on next steps, including exercises, activity modification, and an individualised treatment plan.
Does physiotherapy hurt?
Physiotherapy should not be painful, although you may feel mild discomfort during certain techniques, particularly in sensitive or restricted areas. Your physiotherapist will always work within your comfort levels and explain what they are doing throughout treatment. Any post-treatment soreness is usually mild and short-lived.
How many Physio sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies depending on the nature, severity, and duration of your condition, as well as how your body responds to treatment. Some people notice improvement within a few sessions, while more complex or long-standing problems may require a structured course of care. Your physiotherapist will discuss realistic expectations with you after assessment.
Do I need a GP referral to see a Physio?
No referral is needed to see a physiotherapist. You can book directly. However, if you have had scans, consultant letters, or previous medical reports, bringing these with you can be very helpful in guiding assessment and treatment.
What is the difference between osteopathy and physiotherapy?
Both osteopathy and physiotherapy aim to improve movement, reduce pain, and restore function. Osteopathy traditionally places greater emphasis on hands-on assessment and manual treatment alongside rehabilitation, while physiotherapy may focus more on exercise-based approaches. At Spine Plus, osteopathy and physiotherapy principles are often combined to give the most effective, individualised care.
Can Physiotherapy help if my scans are "normal"?
Yes. Many musculoskeletal problems do not show clearly on scans such as MRI or X-ray. Our Physiotherapists will focus on how your body is functioning, including movement patterns, joint mechanics, muscle control, and load tolerance, which can explain symptoms even when imaging appears unremarkable.
Is Physiotherapy safe?
Physiotherapy is a regulated healthcare profession in the UK. All physiotherapists at Spine Plus are fully qualified and registered, and treatment is adapted to your medical history, age, and individual risk factors. If physiotherapy is not appropriate for your condition, this will be identified during assessment and you will be advised accordingly.
How do I book a physiotherapy appointment?
You can book an appointment online or contact one of our clinics directly. We offer physiotherapy appointments across our clinic locations, with flexible appointment times to suit your schedule, including evenings and weekends.
