Reehan's Story: IDD Therapy When Spinal Injections Weren't Working
Published: 19 February 2013
Reehan was 37 years old and had been suffering from severe sciatica for over 12 months due to a large disc herniation. He had already tried physiotherapy, chiropractic treatment, and podiatry without success.
When Injections Weren't Enough
His GP referred him to a spinal surgeon who administered epidural and spinal injections. These provided only temporary relief. When his sciatica returned, it was worse than ever and he was unable to sit or walk for more than 10 minutes. Surgery was recommended as the next step.
Choosing IDD Therapy
Rather than proceed with surgery, Reehan sought out IDD Therapy at Spine Plus. His treatment plan included paraspinal trigger point dry needling, core strengthening exercises, and IDD Therapy as the primary intervention targeting the disc directly.
Outcome
Following treatment, his reflexes and neural tension signs all returned to normal, his sciatica and back pain completely resolved, and he was able to avoid spinal surgery. This after more than a year of unsuccessful treatment from multiple practitioners.
About IDD Therapy for Large Disc Herniations
Large disc herniations are one of the conditions where IDD Therapy tends to perform best. By creating sustained oscillating traction at the specific disc level, it reduces the pressure differential that keeps the herniated material displaced, allowing gradual retraction over the course of treatment. Combined with neural mobilisation and core strengthening, this approach achieves results that injections and manual therapy alone cannot.
