TECAR Therapy at Spine Plus
At Spine Plus, all of our clinics can provide TECAR Therapy to maximise recovery from pain and injury, even in the deepest, hardest-to-reach tissues. Our TECAR machines are top of the range, including the Medipharon 5 (by Medisport).
How TECAR Works
TECAR involves:
- Passing a therapeutic radio-frequency electromagnetic current (RFEC) through the target tissues
- Speeding up the transportation of ionic substances
- Creating movement (rotation and oscillation) of compounds including water, sodium, potassium, calcium and chloride molecules, creating a therapeutic deep heating effect
- Increasing blood flow and drainage, which increases metabolic activity and positively influences cells involved in healing
- Producing changes in peripheral nerve conduction
Is the Medipharon 5 Safe?
Yes, it has been fully tested and certified as safe and therapeutic, with few contraindications and very few risks of adverse reactions.
Contraindications
- Cardiac pacemakers
- Suspected or obvious neoplasm (cancer)
- Hearing aids
- Uterine contraceptive devices
- Pregnancy
- Epilepsy
- Fever and infections
Is TECAR Painful?
No. It feels like a very pleasant warming massage sensation, not unlike a heated stone massage. The difference is that with TECAR, the healing electrical pulses pass far deeper into the body than surface massage can reach.
How Does TECAR Compare to Shockwave?
The two modalities are different and complementary. Shockwave uses mechanical forces to break down adhesions and calcified tissue and stimulate blood flow. TECAR uses electromagnetic waves to produce heat, drainage and stimulate cells involved in healing. The two treatments can be combined and complement each other. We have seen particular success with plantar fasciitis patients when TECAR follows shockwave therapy in the same session.
Is TECAR Effective?
TECAR has well-established, tried and tested protocols for conditions such as neck and shoulder pain, low back pain, sciatica, arthritis in the knee and plantar fasciitis. We have also found that chronic conditions such as arthritic knees and long-term back conditions (including mild spinal stenosis) have responded to TECAR where we were previously struggling to help these patients.
In our opinion, TECAR is a must-have piece of kit for any clinic serious about providing gold-standard back pain therapy.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
Improvements are typically experienced within just one or two sessions. Depending on the problem, you might require a monthly top-up treatment as pain management for chronic conditions.
