What Does IDD Therapy Feel Like?
Published: 4 July 2023
One of the most common questions we hear is: "What does IDD Therapy actually feel like?" It's a fair question for anyone considering a treatment they've not experienced before.
In this short video, a patient describes the IDD therapy experience in real time, while he's actually receiving treatment. He had tried many other approaches for his lower back disc problems without success and describes IDD as "the only therapy that's helped him."
What Patients Typically Experience
IDD Therapy involves lying on a treatment table with a harness that gently applies cyclic traction to a specific level of the spine. Most patients describe the feeling as:
- A gentle stretching sensation in the lower back
- Progressive relaxation of the surrounding muscles
- Comfortable, not painful, even when the disc is inflamed
- Relief of leg symptoms or numbness during the session in some cases
Sessions typically last 25 to 30 minutes. The machine is computer-controlled so the forces are precise and consistent every time.
About IDD Therapy
IDD (Intervertebral Differential Dynamics) Therapy is a computerised spinal decompression system that targets specific disc levels. It uses oscillating distraction forces to gently decompress the disc space, reduce nerve root compression, and encourage the disc to heal. Spine Plus was one of the first three clinics in the UK to offer IDD Therapy, and has been using it since 2011.
